Day & Night blinds
Day and night blinds — also sold as vision or transition blinds — run alternating sheer and solid bands over a single roller. Slide the bands out of line and the window is covered; line them up and the room fills with soft light and you keep the view. One blind therefore covers daytime privacy from the street and proper cover once the lights come on.

Explained
Day & Night blinds, explained
Day & Night blinds are a double-layered roller blind with alternating sheer and solid horizontal bands. By moving the fabric, you line the bands up for a softer filtered view, or offset them for more privacy while still keeping some light in the room. On this page the ranges are mostly plain or lightly textured, in neutral shades, with a few darker contrasts. Some are also available with motorisation, and a few sit closer to dimout or blackout versions for rooms where light control matters more.
These blinds suit pared-back, modern rooms and work especially well where you want a softer alternative to a plain roller blind. The layered stripe gives interest without adding pattern in the usual sense.
Best for
- Rooms where you want to adjust privacy through the day without raising the blind fully
- Living rooms, dining rooms and home offices where glare needs softening rather than blocking completely
- Windows and doors that suit a neat, modern striped look
- People choosing between a voile and a roller blind and wanting something in between
Worth knowing
- Standard Day & Night fabrics are not full blackout unless the specific range is sold as blackout or dimout
- The horizontal banding is part of the look, so it suits cleaner, more contemporary schemes than heavily traditional ones
- Some tagged ranges in this filter appear to belong to other categories, so your advisor can confirm the exact product on the day
How to choose
- 1
Decide how much light control you need
If you want gentle screening and daytime privacy, a standard Day & Night fabric usually does the job. For bedrooms or spaces where stronger light reduction matters, look closely at the blackout or dimout-labelled ranges in this filter rather than assuming all Day & Night blinds behave the same way.
- 2
Choose between soft neutrals and stronger contrast
Most of the sample ranges sit in whites, creams, greys, beige and charcoal, with plain or lightly woven finishes. Lighter shades keep the blind quieter at the window; darker contrasts make the horizontal striping more obvious and give the blind a more graphic look.
- 3
Think about operation and window position
For everyday windows, manual operation is often straightforward. If the blind will sit behind furniture, on doors, or on a harder-to-reach window, a motorised option may be worth asking about. Your advisor can confirm what suits the opening and show the nearest matching samples at home.
Day & Night blinds: questions people ask
Do Day & Night blinds look busy on a small window?
Not usually. Most ranges here are plain or only lightly textured, so the horizontal bands read as structure rather than decoration. On a small window, choosing a pale grey, cream or white tends to keep the look quieter, while darker contrasts make the striping stand out more.
Are Day & Night blinds a good choice for a home office?
They often are, because you can soften glare without shutting the room off completely. That makes them useful for screens and video calls where harsh sunlight is the issue but you still want daylight in the room. A softer neutral shade usually feels less stark through working hours.
Can I have Day & Night blinds on doors as well as windows?
Some ranges in this filter are tagged for French doors and patio doors, so they can be an option beyond standard windows. Suitability depends on the opening and how the blind needs to sit and operate, so your advisor will confirm the best arrangement on the day when they measure.
Do Day & Night blinds work well in a conservatory?
They can, particularly where you want to take the edge off brightness without making the space feel closed in. Several ranges here are tagged for conservatories. Because glass-heavy rooms vary a lot, your advisor can show suitable samples at home and confirm which fabric and operation make most sense.
What is the difference between the plain, dimout and blackout Day & Night ranges here?
The plain ranges are generally about adjustable privacy and softened light. Dimout versions aim to reduce light more noticeably, while blackout-labelled options are the ones to consider if stronger room darkening is the priority. The exact look and finish vary by range, so it is worth comparing samples side by side.

Day & night and transition blinds: privacy you can dial in
A day and night blind is two layers of striped fabric on one roller. Slide the stripes out of line and the window closes; line them up and the room gets soft light with the view still there. One blind does the job of a sheer and a solid.

Day & Night blinds: your questions answered
How this type behaves in a real room, plus how measuring, fitting and the guarantee work.
How does a day and night blind actually work?
Two layers of banded fabric run over one roller. Slide them out of line and the solid stripes overlap for cover; line them up and the sheer bands let soft light through while you keep the view. One blind therefore covers daytime privacy from the street and proper cover once the lights are on.
Is a day and night blind a blackout blind?
No. Even with the solid bands aligned, light passes through the sheer stripes, so a bedroom that needs darkness wants a blackout roller or roman instead. Day and night blinds are about controlling privacy through the day.
Are vision blinds and zebra blinds the same thing?
Yes — vision, zebra, transition and day and night all describe the same banded double-layer roller. Different makers use different names for it.
Is fitting included in the price?
Yes. The quote you are given covers the product, the fitting and the guarantee. Your fitter hangs everything, checks the operation with you and takes the packaging away.
Who measures the windows?
Your advisor does, on the appointment. That matters for more than convenience: because we take the measurements, the fit is our responsibility rather than yours. Every opening is measured on its own — we never size one window off the one next to it.
What guarantee do I get?
A 1-year guarantee on every blind, shutter and motor we supply and fit. If something goes wrong inside that period, ring the office and we come back out.
Which type of blind suits which room?
Rollers are the simplest and best value and take blackout or dimout fabrics for bedrooms. Romans give a soft, curtain-like fold in living rooms. Venetians and wooden slats let you tilt light rather than just block it, which suits kitchens and studies. Verticals handle wide spans and patio doors. Day & night blinds have alternating stripes so you can trade privacy against light through the day.
