Skylight blinds
A blind on a sloped or roof window has to be held to the glass or gravity pulls it away from the frame. Skylight blinds run in side channels under tension so they stay flat at any angle and hold their position. Pair one with a motor and you can shade a loft room without a pole.

Explained
Skylight blinds, explained
Skylight blinds are made for roof windows and sloped glazing, where an ordinary vertical blind would simply hang away from the glass. They sit on a side-track system that follows the angle of the window, holding the fabric flat whether the pane is gently pitched or near-horizontal. Within this filter you will find plain woven fabrics for a soft, even light, pleated or honeycomb textures that add a little insulation, and blackout versions built for bedrooms under a loft roof. Fabrics are hand-finished in the Impress workshop and fitted by their own team, measured to your actual roof window rather than a standard size.
Suits plain neutral and pale tones for a calm, low-key finish overhead, though a bolder printed fabric works where the skylight is a feature in its own right.
Best for
- Roof windows and loft conversions, including angled or sloped panes
- Bedrooms where overhead light needs blocking for sleep
- Conservatories or garden rooms with roof glazing
- Landings and stairwells with skylights that are awkward to reach
Worth knowing
- Some pattern and colourway options are more decorative than functional, so check the fabric suits a bright overhead position
- A few entries in this filter are also tagged under pleated or perfect fit ranges, so the same fabric may appear framed differently depending on the window shape
- Cordless or motorised control is worth asking about early, since reaching an overhead blind by hand is not always practical
How to choose
- 1
Start with light control
Decide whether you want daylight softened, filtered, or blocked completely for sleep, then narrow to plain, pleated or blackout fabrics accordingly.
- 2
Think about reach
High or steeply angled skylights are harder to operate by hand, so consider a cordless or motorised option and mention the height to your advisor.
- 3
Match the room's tone
Bedrooms and living spaces often suit plain neutrals or a printed fabric, while conservatories and bathrooms tend towards wipeable or pale, light-reflecting finishes.
Skylight blinds: questions people ask
Can I get a patterned fabric for a skylight blind, or is it neutrals only?
Both are available. Most skylight fabrics shown are plain, flat weaves in neutral tones, but printed options such as a large-scale floral do appear in this range too. Your advisor will bring physical samples so you can see how a pattern reads under overhead light before deciding.
What is the difference between the plain and blackout skylight blinds shown here?
The plain fabrics filter and soften daylight without blocking it out, which suits landings or living areas. The blackout versions are built to cut light more fully and are usually paired with cordless operation, making them the better fit for a bedroom used for sleep.
Do skylight blinds use the same track system as vertical window blinds?
No. Skylight blinds are fitted on a side-track system designed to follow the angle of the roof window and hold the fabric flat against the glass, rather than hanging by gravity as a vertical blind does. Your advisor will confirm the exact fitting for your window on the day.
Are skylight blinds suitable for a bathroom with a roof window?
Yes, provided a wipeable fabric is chosen rather than one with a soft or absorbent finish. Your advisor can point out which fabrics in this filter are suited to a bathroom's steam and condensation when they visit.
Can a run of several skylights be controlled together?
Motorised skylight blinds can usually be grouped so a row of roof windows opens and closes together on one remote or app command, which is worth raising with your advisor if you have more than one skylight in a room.

1. Roller and brackets
The fabric winds onto a tube held by two small brackets, inside the recess or on the wall above it. Which one suits your window is settled when it's measured.
Your advisor brings samples of every option to your window, so you can see and feel them before you choose.

Skylight blinds: your questions answered
How this type behaves in a real room, plus how measuring, fitting and the guarantee work.
Why do sloped windows need a special blind?
Because gravity pulls an ordinary blind away from the frame. Skylight blinds run in side channels under tension, so the fabric stays flat against the glass at any angle and holds its position instead of sagging open.
Will it fit my roof window?
Most standard roof windows are covered, but the fixing depends on the frame make and model. Your advisor measures the frame itself, not just the glass, which is why a roof window is quoted after the visit rather than from a photograph.
How do I reach a blind that high?
Either a pole or a motor. In a loft conversion or over a stairwell, motorised is what almost everyone chooses — the blind is out of reach for the rest of its life, so a handset is worth the difference.
Is fitting included in the price?
Yes. The quote you are given covers the product, the fitting and the guarantee. Your fitter hangs everything, checks the operation with you and takes the packaging away.
Who measures the windows?
Your advisor does, on the appointment. That matters for more than convenience: because we take the measurements, the fit is our responsibility rather than yours. Every opening is measured on its own — we never size one window off the one next to it.
What guarantee do I get?
A 1-year guarantee on every blind, shutter and motor we supply and fit. If something goes wrong inside that period, ring the office and we come back out.
Which type of blind suits which room?
Rollers are the simplest and best value and take blackout or dimout fabrics for bedrooms. Romans give a soft, curtain-like fold in living rooms. Venetians and wooden slats let you tilt light rather than just block it, which suits kitchens and studies. Verticals handle wide spans and patio doors. Day & night blinds have alternating stripes so you can trade privacy against light through the day.
