Venetian blinds

Venetians are the most precise light control on this site: tilt the slats a few degrees and you keep the brightness while losing the glare on a screen or a television. Aluminium suits kitchens, bathrooms and home offices because it wipes clean and shrugs off steam; faux wood gives you the look of timber in the same wet rooms.

Explained

Venetian blinds, explained

Venetian blinds use horizontal slats that tilt to fine-tune light and privacy without having to raise the whole blind. In this filter, the sample ranges are mainly slim metal venetians in plain colours, with a few wood-effect finishes as well. They give a neat lined look at the window and are especially practical where you want easy day-to-day control of glare. Many of the examples shown are tagged as waterproof, which makes this selection particularly useful for kitchens, bathrooms and conservatories where a wipe-clean blind usually earns its keep.

This selection suits practical interiors, simple modern schemes and rooms that benefit from a clean, striped window line rather than a soft fabric look.

Best for

  • Kitchens, bathrooms and conservatories where a wipe-clean blind makes sense
  • Windows where you want to adjust privacy and daylight through the day
  • Plain, practical schemes that suit crisp horizontal lines
  • Rooms with screens or strong sun where tilting the slats helps manage glare

Worth knowing

  • Slats still need regular dusting, especially in busier rooms
  • Small corded controls are less suited where you want the simplest child-friendly option
  • A very dark colour will read more graphic and show dust sooner than a softer mid tone

How to choose

  1. 1

    Pick the room first

For steamy or splash-prone rooms, look at the metal and waterproof options shown here. They are the most practical part of this filter for bathrooms, kitchens and conservatories, where a damp cloth is usually all that is needed for day-to-day cleaning.

  2. 2

Use colour to set the tone

White, cream and pale grey keep the window quiet and tidy. Graphite, charcoal and brighter shades make the blind more noticeable. The sample also shows a few wood-effect metal finishes if you want the look of timber with a more wipeable surface.

  3. 3

Think about light control, not just privacy

A venetian is useful when you want more control than an open-or-shut blind. Tilted slats can soften daylight and reduce glare while still letting some light through. Your advisor can confirm on the day what will suit the window and room best.

Venetian blinds: questions people ask

Are the venetian blinds in this filter mostly metal or wood?

From the sample shown, this filter is mainly made up of metal venetian blinds, including plain colours and some timber-effect finishes. If you are looking specifically for faux wood or real wood, that is usually better treated as a separate choice because the look, weight and room suitability are different.

Do these venetians work well in bathrooms and kitchens?

Yes, this filter appears to lean strongly towards practical metal venetians, with many sample ranges tagged as waterproof. That makes them a sensible choice for bathrooms, kitchens and conservatories. As a rule, wipeable materials are the safer option in moisture-prone rooms, and your advisor can confirm the best choice on the day.

Will the colour look very bold once the blind is up?

With venetians, the slats create lots of thin horizontal lines, so strong colours can look more graphic across the whole window than the sample first suggests. If you want something quieter, white, cream, ash and softer greys tend to sit back more easily in the room.

Can venetian blinds suit a living room, or are they only for practical spaces?

They can suit a living room if you like a cleaner, more structured window finish. The sample includes several ranges tagged for living rooms as well as practical spaces. Lighter neutrals feel calmer, while darker greys and brighter colours make more of a feature of the window.

Are wood-effect venetians a good compromise?

They can be if you like the lined look of a venetian but do not want a flat painted finish. In this filter, some sample ranges use woodgrain effects on metal slats, which gives a warmer appearance while keeping the practical feel of a metal blind.

Venetian blinds: your questions answered

How this type behaves in a real room, plus how measuring, fitting and the guarantee work.

Aluminium or faux wood?

Aluminium slats are thin, cheap to run across several windows and wipe clean — the standard choice for kitchens, home offices and bathrooms. Faux wood is thicker, looks like painted or stained timber and feels more substantial in a living room, while still shrugging off steam.

Will a venetian stop glare on a screen?

Better than anything else we fit. Tilting the slats a few degrees throws the light at the ceiling instead of your monitor, so the room stays bright while the glare goes. That is why they end up in most home offices.

Are they a pain to dust?

Less than people expect. Tilt the slats closed and run a duster or a soft cloth across the face, then tilt the other way and repeat. Aluminium and faux wood both take a damp cloth, which real timber does not.

Is fitting included in the price?

Yes. The quote you are given covers the product, the fitting and the guarantee. Your fitter hangs everything, checks the operation with you and takes the packaging away.

Who measures the windows?

Your advisor does, on the appointment. That matters for more than convenience: because we take the measurements, the fit is our responsibility rather than yours. Every opening is measured on its own — we never size one window off the one next to it.

What guarantee do I get?

A 1-year guarantee on every blind, shutter and motor we supply and fit. If something goes wrong inside that period, ring the office and we come back out.

Which type of blind suits which room?

Rollers are the simplest and best value and take blackout or dimout fabrics for bedrooms. Romans give a soft, curtain-like fold in living rooms. Venetians and wooden slats let you tilt light rather than just block it, which suits kitchens and studies. Verticals handle wide spans and patio doors. Day & night blinds have alternating stripes so you can trade privacy against light through the day.
