Explained
Dark Wood, explained
Dark wood blinds are about bringing a deeper timber tone to the window rather than a bright painted finish. On this page, that mainly means wooden and wood-look venetian blinds with horizontal slats in warmer mid-to-dark browns, walnut-style shades and visible grain effects. You may also see a few wood-effect options in slimmer metal slats or framed styles. They suit rooms that need a bit more visual weight at the window, while still giving the usual venetian control over light and privacy by tilting the slats up or down.
Dark wood blinds sit well with warm neutrals, traditional timber furniture and darker painted rooms. They can also add contrast to pale walls if you want the window to read more clearly.
Best for
- Living rooms and dining spaces that suit warmer timber tones
- Windows where you want adjustable light without a full fabric blind
- Traditional, rustic or darker modern schemes with wood furniture
- Bay windows and other everyday openings measured individually
Worth knowing
- Not every range in this filter is genuinely dark wood; some samples shown are white, honey or grey wood finishes
- Real wood is better kept away from steamy bathrooms and close to hobs; ask about faux-wood alternatives for those spots
- Wood-effect perfect fit or skylight products may sit here because of finish rather than true wooden construction
How to choose
- 1
Pick the right wood look for the room
Some ranges here are real wood, while others are faux wood or wood-effect metal. If the room is warm and dry, real wood can give a natural grain and a lighter feel. For kitchens and bathrooms, a wipeable faux-wood option is usually the safer choice.
- 2
Check how dark you want the finish
‘Dark wood’ can cover quite a spread, from medium honey-brown to much deeper walnut-style tones. Hold samples up in your own room, as deeper shades can make more of a statement, while mid-tones sit more quietly against pale walls and white frames.
- 3
Think about slat style as well as colour
Broad slats give a chunkier, more classic wooden-blind look, while slimmer slats feel neater and a little more understated. Grain, paint finish and ladder detail all change the look, so it is worth choosing by sample rather than by the filter name alone.
Dark Wood: questions people ask
Are all the blinds in this filter real dark wood?
No. From the sample ranges, this filter appears to include a mix of real wood, faux wood and some wood-effect venetian styles. It also includes shades that look more honey, grey or white than genuinely dark wood, so it is worth checking each range rather than relying on the filter title alone.
Do dark wood blinds make a room feel smaller?
They can feel heavier at the window than white or pale wood, especially in a small room with limited daylight. That does not automatically make them wrong for the space, but it is worth comparing a mid-wood tone with a deeper walnut-style shade in your own light before you decide.
Are dark wood blinds suitable for kitchens?
They can be, but material matters. In kitchens, wipeable faux-wood venetians are often the more practical choice, particularly near cooking areas. If you like a darker timber look, ask your advisor which darker faux-wood finishes are available for that room.
Can I get a dark wood look on doors or tilt-and-turn windows?
Sometimes, yes. This filter sample includes a framed venetian range with a wood-grain look, which may suit certain door or window types. The best option depends on the opening and how it is used day to day, so your advisor will confirm what works on the day.
What should I match dark wood blinds to in the room?
Most people either match them loosely to existing timber furniture or use them as a contrast against lighter walls and trim. You do not need an exact colour match. A similar warmth in the wood tone usually looks more natural than trying to copy every timber finish exactly.

1. Roller and brackets
The fabric winds onto a tube held by two small brackets, inside the recess or on the wall above it. Which one suits your window is settled when it's measured.
Your advisor brings samples of every option to your window, so you can see and feel them before you choose.

Cut to your window, not trimmed to fit
We measure each recess on site and allow for handles, tiles, sills and tilt-and-turn frames before anything is made.

Fitted by the people who sold it
Our own fitter installs, squares up and takes the packaging away. Nothing is subcontracted out and there is no surprise charge at the end.
One year of cover
Fabric, mechanism and fitting are covered by our 1-year guarantee. If a chain or a bracket fails, we come back out and put it right.
Finance options available. We offer flexible ways to pay so a whole-house refresh doesn't have to land in one go. Your advisor will talk you through what's available at your appointment.

Dark Wood: your questions answered
How this type behaves in a real room, plus how measuring, fitting and the guarantee work.
Is fitting included in the price?
Yes. The quote you are given covers the product, the fitting and the guarantee. Your fitter hangs everything, checks the operation with you and takes the packaging away.
Who measures the windows?
Your advisor does, on the appointment. That matters for more than convenience: because we take the measurements, the fit is our responsibility rather than yours. Every opening is measured on its own — we never size one window off the one next to it.
What guarantee do I get?
A 1-year guarantee on every blind, shutter and motor we supply and fit. If something goes wrong inside that period, ring the office and we come back out.
Which type of blind suits which room?
Rollers are the simplest and best value and take blackout or dimout fabrics for bedrooms. Romans give a soft, curtain-like fold in living rooms. Venetians and wooden slats let you tilt light rather than just block it, which suits kitchens and studies. Verticals handle wide spans and patio doors. Day & night blinds have alternating stripes so you can trade privacy against light through the day.
