Explained
Living room blinds, explained
Living room blinds cover the vertical, roller and blackout ranges suited to lounges and family rooms, where the main jobs are cutting glare, keeping the room private after dark and controlling light without losing the view during the day. Vertical blinds suit wide windows and patio doors, stacking neatly to the side, while roller blinds fit standard openings and layer easily under curtains. Fabrics range from plain woven textures to subtle patterned weaves, in blackout, thermal or wipeable finishes. An advisor brings the full sample range to your home, holds fabrics against your own windows and measures before anything is ordered.
Suits living rooms wanting a plain, tonal look, from soft off-white and stone woven textures through to deeper charcoal and near-black, rather than bold pattern.
Best for
- Living rooms with a run of windows or patio doors that need glare and privacy control
- Households wanting a mix of light control and screen visibility for TV viewing
- Rooms where fabric or slat colour needs to work with existing furnishings
- South or west-facing living rooms with strong afternoon sun
Worth knowing
- Several of the ranges shown here are actually tagged to bathroom, bedroom, children's and conservatory use rather than living rooms specifically, so check the room tag on each range before assuming it suits a lounge
- Replacement slats are a spares option for an existing blind rather than a new blind in their own right
How to choose
- 1
Think about the window itself
Wide windows and sliding or patio doors often suit vertical blinds, which stack neatly to one or both sides. Smaller or standard windows tend to suit a roller or venetian instead.
- 2
Decide how dark you need it
If you watch television or work from the room, a blackout or thermal fabric cuts glare and screen reflection. For general privacy without full blackout, a plain or lightly textured fabric is enough.
- 3
Match the finish to family life
Cordless or motorised options suit rooms used by children or pets, since there's no hanging chain. Your advisor can talk through which mechanism fits the room on the day.
Living room blinds: questions people ask
Can I get a vertical blind that also blocks glare from a TV?
Yes, several vertical ranges shown here come in blackout or thermal fabric, which cuts both light and screen glare. Your advisor will bring samples to hold against your own window so you can see how much light comes through before you decide.
Do living room blinds need to be blackout?
Not necessarily. Blackout suits rooms used for television or shift-pattern sleeping, but many living rooms are better served by a plain or lightly textured fabric that softens light without blocking it completely. Your advisor can talk through both when they measure up.
What if my living room has a wide window or patio doors?
Vertical blinds are generally suited to wider openings and doors, since the louvres stack to one or both sides rather than piling up above the window. Your advisor measures the opening and will confirm what suits it on the day.
Can I buy replacement slats without a new blind?
Yes, some ranges are sold as replacement slats for an existing vertical blind rather than as a full new blind. These let you refresh colour or replace damaged louvres without remaking the whole thing.
Are these blinds suitable if I have young children or pets in the living room?
Several ranges here include cordless options, and any corded blind is fitted with the required child-safety devices as standard. If you have young children or pets, mention it to your advisor so they can point you towards a cordless or motorised option.
How it's made

1. Roller and brackets
The fabric winds onto a tube held by two small brackets, inside the recess or on the wall above it. Which one suits your window is settled when it's measured.
Your advisor brings samples of every option to your window, so you can see and feel them before you choose.

The clocks go back on Sunday 25 October, and the dark evenings arrive with them. Blackout blinds and lined curtains keep the glow in and the street out.

Why our living room blinds service is right for you
Cut to your window, not trimmed to fit
We measure each recess on site and allow for handles, tiles, sills and tilt-and-turn frames before anything is made.
Samples seen in your own light
A fabric that looks warm under showroom lighting can read grey at home. Your advisor brings the range to your rooms so you judge it against your walls.
Fitted by the people who sold it
Our own fitter installs, squares up and takes the packaging away. Nothing is subcontracted out and there is no surprise charge at the end.
One year of cover
Fabric, mechanism and fitting are covered by our 1-year guarantee. If a chain or a bracket fails, we come back out and put it right.
Finance options available. We offer flexible ways to pay so a whole-house refresh doesn't have to land in one go. Your advisor will talk you through what's available at your appointment.

Living room blinds: your questions answered
How this type behaves in a real room, plus how measuring, fitting and the guarantee work.
Is fitting included in the price?
Yes. The quote you are given covers the product, the fitting and the guarantee. Your fitter hangs everything, checks the operation with you and takes the packaging away.
Who measures the windows?
Your advisor does, on the appointment. That matters for more than convenience: because we take the measurements, the fit is our responsibility rather than yours. Every opening is measured on its own — we never size one window off the one next to it.
What guarantee do I get?
A 1-year guarantee on every blind, shutter and motor we supply and fit. If something goes wrong inside that period, ring the office and we come back out.
Which type of blind suits which room?
Rollers are the simplest and best value and take blackout or dimout fabrics for bedrooms. Romans give a soft, curtain-like fold in living rooms. Venetians and wooden slats let you tilt light rather than just block it, which suits kitchens and studies. Verticals handle wide spans and patio doors. Day & night blinds have alternating stripes so you can trade privacy against light through the day.
