Explained
Gable end blinds, explained
Gable end blinds are made for the tall, often triangular or multi-angled windows found at the pointed end of a conservatory or extension. Because these openings rarely have straight top edges, each panel is shaped and pleated to the exact angles of the glazing bars rather than sold as a standard rectangle. In practice the products you will see under this filter are cellular (honeycomb) blinds, since the pleated cell structure folds cleanly along an angled or pointed top rail and stacks flat when raised, which is harder to do with a plain roller or flat panel. They can be run on a track, operated by pole or wand, or motorised so hard-to-reach apex sections are not left dangling on a cord.
The honeycomb pleat suits conservatories and garden rooms where a soft, textured, tonal look is wanted rather than a bold pattern, and works equally in a pale off-white or a muted sage-grey scheme.
Best for
- Conservatories and orangeries with an angled or pointed gable window
- Extensions with a triangular apex above bi-fold or French doors
- Rooms where the gable faces strong sun and you want the cell pockets for some heat control
- Awkward multi-pane shapes where a standard rectangular blind will not sit flush
Worth knowing
- The angle and number of panes vary window to window, so the exact shape and how it folds is confirmed when the advisor measures
- A honeycomb gable blind will usually be paired with matching roof and wall blinds rather than fitted alone, which affects how it looks as a set
How to choose
- 1
Match the fold to the angle
A gable end is rarely a simple triangle; it often has several angled panes meeting at a ridge. The advisor will show how the honeycomb pleats sit at each junction before you commit.
- 2
Decide on control
Gable sections sit high and are awkward to reach by hand. Ask about a pole, chain or motorised option so you are not stretching or leaving a permanent cord in place.
- 3
Think about the whole conservatory, not just the gable
Most homes fit the gable blind alongside roof and wall blinds in the same fabric, so it reads as one scheme rather than one odd-shaped panel.
Gable end blinds: questions people ask
Can a gable end blind be made in one piece if the window has several angled panes?
It depends on the glazing bars and how the panes meet. Some gables can take a single shaped blind; others need separate sections split at each ridge or mullion. Your advisor will work this out from the actual window when they measure.
How is a gable end blind operated if it is above a bi-fold door?
Because the panel usually sits well above head height, a pole, chain or motorised control is common rather than a hand-pulled cord. Motorised options can also be grouped with neighbouring roof or wall blinds to move together.
Will the honeycomb fabric stop the gable end getting too hot?
The cell structure holds a layer of air, which helps take the edge off solar gain compared with a flat fabric, though it is not a substitute for proper conservatory ventilation. Your advisor can talk through fabric weight and colour for a sunny aspect.
Do gable end blinds come with the child-safety features fitted to other blinds?
Yes, any corded control is fitted with the safety devices required for UK homes, and the fitter shows you how they work. Where the gable is reachable by children, a cordless or motorised control is usually suggested instead.
Can I get a sample of the gable blind fabric before deciding?
Yes, free fabric samples are available and posted first class, up to five per order, so you can see the honeycomb texture and colour against your own conservatory light before the advisor's visit.

1. Top rail that moves
On a top-down, bottom-up blind both rails move, so you can cover the lower panes for privacy and keep the sky.

Cut to your window, not trimmed to fit
We measure each recess on site and allow for handles, tiles, sills and tilt-and-turn frames before anything is made.

Fitted by the people who sold it
Our own fitter installs, squares up and takes the packaging away. Nothing is subcontracted out and there is no surprise charge at the end.
One year of cover
Fabric, mechanism and fitting are covered by our 1-year guarantee. If a chain or a bracket fails, we come back out and put it right.
Finance options available. We offer flexible ways to pay so a whole-house refresh doesn't have to land in one go. Your advisor will talk you through what's available at your appointment.

Gable end blinds: your questions answered
How this type behaves in a real room, plus how measuring, fitting and the guarantee work.
Is fitting included in the price?
Yes. The quote you are given covers the product, the fitting and the guarantee. Your fitter hangs everything, checks the operation with you and takes the packaging away.
Who measures the windows?
Your advisor does, on the appointment. That matters for more than convenience: because we take the measurements, the fit is our responsibility rather than yours. Every opening is measured on its own — we never size one window off the one next to it.
What guarantee do I get?
A 1-year guarantee on every blind, shutter and motor we supply and fit. If something goes wrong inside that period, ring the office and we come back out.
Which type of blind suits which room?
Rollers are the simplest and best value and take blackout or dimout fabrics for bedrooms. Romans give a soft, curtain-like fold in living rooms. Venetians and wooden slats let you tilt light rather than just block it, which suits kitchens and studies. Verticals handle wide spans and patio doors. Day & night blinds have alternating stripes so you can trade privacy against light through the day.
